Here’s a situation for which a number of cruelly ironic jokes immediately present themselves.
Doug Milliken contributed $12,050 to his successful campaign for Arapahoe County treasurer before getting final notice that his home would be auctioned because he missed too many mortgage payments.
Milliken’s ability to handle money came into question Tuesday, the day after it came to light that his Centennial home in the Parkview Meadows subdivision is scheduled to be auctioned Jan. 3.
That’s the day before he’s to be sworn in as the county’s new treasurer…
The news of the foreclosure of his home was enough to prompt a former Centennial councilwoman to deliver a letter on Tuesday to the Arapahoe County commissioners, asking that they set a high insurance bond for Milliken when he takes office.
Tempting target as it may be, we’re not inclined to run the guy down over this. The same edition of the Rocky Mountain News containing this story reports that Denver-area home foreclosures are about to pass an all-time record. Perhaps some sympathy is in order being the holidays, and not just for Doug Milliken.
We’ll be watching the late-night comedy shows, though, to see if they have any for him…
